How the planner works out your materials
The Verlegeplaner does not multiply length by width and add a fixed waste percentage. It lays your actual room out tile by tile with real product sizes, counts every full and every cut piece, then rounds the order up to whole packs. The waste figure is the result of that plan — never a number you assume in advance. These are the same figures the printable quote and PDF export show.
Free calculator, paid-grade result
Nearly every tile calculator online is free too, so being free proves nothing on its own. What sets a tool apart is what it actually does with your room.
multiply your floor area by a fixed waste percentage. That is a rough estimate — no layout, no cut list, no pack count.
places every tile in your real room and returns an exact cut list and order — but you pay for the licence.
does that paid job for free: it lays your real room out tile by tile, counts every full and cut piece and hands you the cut list, at no cost.
Real tile counts, rounded to whole packs
- Count every pieceEach full tile and each cut piece in the finished layout is counted — not estimated from the floor area.
- Round up to packsTiles are sold in packs, so the order is rounded up to the next whole pack, exactly as a supplier ships them.
- Derive the wasteWaste is what the plan leaves over: the ordered material minus the floor area, shown as a percentage.
Worked example
A 5.0 m × 4.0 m room laid with 60 × 60 cm ceramic tiles (4 per pack) in a straight grid:
- Floor area
- 20.0 m²
- Full tiles
- 48
- Cut tiles
- 15
- Tiles in total
- 63
- Material needed
- 22.68 m²
- Waste
- 13.4 %
- Packs to order
- 16
- Spare tiles left over
- 1
This waste comes out of the finished grid; a herringbone or diagonal pattern raises the tile count and the planner recomputes every figure. Upload your own plan to get the exact numbers for your room.
Common questions
- Does this use a length × width × waste formula?
- No. The planner packs your real room with real tile sizes and counts every piece, then rounds up to whole packs. The waste percentage comes out of that layout — it is never a fixed allowance you type in.
- Are the quantities accurate?
- They are the same tile counts, pack numbers and waste the printable quote and PDF export use, so what you see here is what you order.
- Which floor coverings does it handle?
- Ceramic and stone tiles, parquet, laminate, vinyl (LVT) and carpet tiles — each with its own piece size and pack quantity.
- What does it cost?
- The browser planner is free. Upload a plan or a 3D scan, trace the room, pick a material and generate the layout.
- Do I need to install anything?
- No. It runs entirely in your web browser — there is nothing to download.
